The fines previously mentioned aren’t all “penalties” so to speak.
You do have to pay fines for making the mistake, but you also have to
pay court fees and other costs for the personnel involved in your case.
In addition, if you drink and drive in a school zone in Arizona, your
fines will be doubled, with some of the proceeds going to a state-run
program to make school zones safer.
Of course, these court penalties are just a fraction of the true cost
of drunk driving. You can easily destroy property and, worse, injure
yourself or others. Keep in mind that the above penalties are under the
assumption that you were simply pulled over while drinking and driving.
If you get into an accident while driving drunk, you could be facing
much harsher penalties, even on your first offense.
