Police officers catch people speeding every day. In Arizona, the
most popular way to catch someone speeding is by using a radar gun. If
you’re blatantly traveling at high speeds, an officer can also stop you
for reckless driving, even if he or she did not clock you.
In addition, officers can time you from one point to another, so if you
go through a tollbooth at one time, speed, and then go through a second
tollbooth, they can calculate that you were speeding. However, that is
rare – most commonly, radar guns are used to catch people speeding.
Keep in mind that a police officer can pull over multiple cars at once,
just by clocking the lead car. So, if you are behind a car that is
speeding and are keeping up with that car, the police officer can cite
you for speeding as well, even if he or she did not clock you.
